Welcome to Top 5 Wednesday! This weeks topic is Favourite M/M Couples and I had so much fun picking out my favourites! I really liked this prompt. There are a few very popular YA books with gay characters, but it’s not like I always love them as a couple, so it was kind of hard to pick my favourites.

–Who are your favorite dudes loving other dudes? (Note: this isn’t specifically cis gay couples, but also applies to couples that include bi men, trans men, pan men, ace men, etc.)

Magnus Bane & Alec Lightwood

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

Malec has always been my OTP and I love their story as it progresses so much! How could I not include this couple? They were the first same sex couple I ever read about in YA, and it made me so happy to see the representation.

Mark Blackthorn & Kieran

The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare

Okay, so this seems to be a very Controversial one. Kieran and Mark are so romantic; I love there backstory about how they became lovers. This seems to be the first time I’ve ever seen an important, fully faerie character who actually seems to be benevolent in Cassandra Clare Books. I agree that Kieran could be selfish and not understanding, and indeed we have to keep in mind that he was a faerie prince. Still, he can acquire this virtue in the future!

Ari Mendoza & Dante Quintana

Aristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz

I read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz a couple years ago and absolutely loved it. Ari and Dante start as friends and their relationship was mainly based on Ari accepting his sexuality. When they finally get together, it is really sweet and I can’t wait for the sequel to see more of them actually together. I adored how both boys discovered their sexuality over the course of it. They didn’t have it easy a lot of the time, but I loved how strong their friendship, and then their relationship was. I also really loved the diversity in this book.

Ronan Lynch & Adam Parrish

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

The Raven Boys, well more specifically, The Raven King. The Raven Cycle is a series I’ve recently read and Ronan and Adam were honestly one of the best things about this series (although there were many amazing things). They started off with the best friendship that only they could really understand, and it gradually turned into something more throughout the series.

Henry ‘Monty’ Montague & Percy Newton

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee

I had been highly anticipating this book, it sounded like so much fun, and definitely live up to hype, It actually exceeded my Expectations. Monty isn’t the most likeable character, but I really cared about Monty and Percy and their Relationship, which is a Taboo in that time period the book is set in. I was really invested in the story and their Relationship. Although it was hinted at quite early that Monty had a crush on his best friend, this romance slowly burned throughout the whole book, which I loved, because there were so many cute moments between Monty and Percy.

Bonus: Hunter & Chance

Made of Stars by Kelley York

Made of Stars

Watching Chance and Hunter open up to each other is incredibly well written. There are no gay stereotypes in sight. I really liked the characters, and the depth of their bonds with each other. I am a huge fan of Kelley York’s writing. She makes me fall in love with these broken, flawed characters who I don’t expect to love.
