Looking Back on my 2017 Reading & Blogging Goals!

At the beginning of the year I set a some reading & Blogging goals for myself, and I thought it might be fun to look back at them and see how I did:

1. Request fewer books from Netgalley. I’ve been overdoing it for a couple of months now, and it has to stop, or at least slow down, because my To Read for Review pile is huge.

Yeah, this one is a MASSIVE FAIL. I don’t even want to count the number of books I requested this year. I don’t want to talk about it. ❌

2. Read more books from my shelf. I’d like to get through some books that I already own.

I think it’s fair to say I accomplished this. I’m too lazy to get the exact stats, but I feel like I made more of an effort to read the Books I already own this year. I’m pretty happy with how I did, but I do think I could improve the number next year.

3. Do more discussion posts. I only done two so far and I really liked it, and I want to keep doing them, maybe create one a month. I love discussions.

I’m also going to count this one as a Success. I did do a few discussion posts this year, or at least more than I did the Previous Year.

4. Read more diversely. I actually think I already read pretty diversely, but I’ll try to do even better.

I think it’s fair to say this one was a Success. I’m not going to get the exact stats, but I feel like I made more of an effort to read diverse books this year, and it showed. I’m pretty happy with how I did, but I do think I could improve the number of diverse books I read next year.

5. Read more Classics. I’d like to read twelve Classics, one a month. I’ve started collecting the Vintage Classics versions and want to actually read them and not just stare at the beautiful books.

I read 11 Classics, I was only one of from this goal. I think I could do better with this one next year. So I’ll count this as a fail. ❌

6. Read 150 books. in 2016, I read 104 Books. I’d like to try for 150 books in 2017. Just a classic Goodreads Reading Challenge!

Success! I read 180 books this year. Which is kind of amazing. I think this is the most I’ve ever read in a year.

7. Read what I want to read when I want to read it. I’ve been trying to move away from deadlines and guilt, especially with review copies, and to learn to mood-read again.

I’d say this was a Success! Although the Review Copies have suffered this past year, but I found that I was less stressed when I was more focused on reading what I felt like reading at the time then deadlines.

8. Finish series that I’ve started. Finish at least 10 series that I have started.

I Completed this one! I Finished exactly 10 Series that I had previously started. I’m quite happy with that, but I’m hoping to do better next year!

9. Be more active on other blogs. One of the best parts about blogging is getting comments. Everyone loves comments, and I love so many of your blogs out there. I want to be way more active on your blogs. I’m hoping to also extend this to bloggers that I don’t currently follow and try to see more of the book blogging community.

I’d say this was a success! The Idea of this Goal was just to be more active on other Blogs than I was the Previous year. When I first started blogging in 2016, I wasn’t really that active on other blogs.

10. Engage with my followers more. I enjoy reading your posts and I usually get interrupted mid-comment before I can reply.

This was another Successful Goal! This year I was a lot better with Commenting and Replying back. I commented a lot more to other Bloggers posts.

I completed 8/10 of the goals I set in 2017. so, I’d say, even though I was two Goals away from completing all of the Goals, it’s a success. I’m pretty happy with what I managed to complete and Achieve. I’ll have my new list of goals for 2018 ready to share Tomorrow!

I’m also going to be updating my 2017 Reading Challenges in the next few days, if you’d like to check that & find out which Challenges I completed or Failed, and I will have my 2018 Reading Challenges up soon too. Thanks for reading, and thanks for joining me in 2017! Here’s to an even better 2018!

Did you set any reading/Blogging goals this year? How did you do? Let me know in the Comments!
