When we’re going through hard times, there are a lot of coping mechanisms we can turn to—funny movies, tearjerkers, beloved songs, chocolate, and of course, books. So, today I’m going to be sharing with you the books that have brought me comfort and solace through hard times.
The Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare
City of Bones was the first book that got me back into reading, after not reading anything in years. It reminded me why I loved reading as a child, and I read The Mortal Instruments series in about a Month. Cassandra Clares books have helped me through the worst dips of my Depression and Changed my life. I wouldn’t even be a blogger if it wasn’t for reading these books. Wonderful, Comforting, all-encompassing escapism.
Deltora Quest by Emily Rodda
Deltora Quest was my Favourite Series as a child. This was a comfort series for me, I would constantly re-read it when I was going through difficult times.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz
It’s Light, fun & Uplifting. It’s a fantastic, adorable story, and it will have you pondering life at the end.
The Raven Cycle Series by Maggie Stiefvater
Reading this made me feel like I suddenly had new friends. As the Characters grew, I grew with them. I was going on Adventures with them and forgetting all the Stress and bad things happening.
The Perks of being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
This was unlike anything I’d read before. The Main Character was so relatable in a way that you don’t often see in books – he doesn’t have friends, he’s depressed, he’s kind of Awkward, and he feels things really deeply. Reading this book helped me process my own depression and Loneliness.

Harry Potter is my go-to when I’m feeling a bit down or in a reading slump. Getting lost in that world again always cheers me up! Zombies and apocalypse books are also uplifting!
