To thirteen-year-old Lola, the world is not a very magical place. She often gets in trouble, whether it’s with her parents, who find her rich imagination a bit tiresome, or at school, where the teachers see her as being far too dramatic. But Lola knows she is meant to do more in life, like maybe save the day…someday.

But when Lola and her friends realise that something disastrous is about to strike their town, they gather their strengths and are determined to solve the mystery. Their sleuthing soon brings them all the way to the King, who is less than pleased with Lola’s fearless hunt for the truth.

As Lola struggles to remain in the good graces of the people in her life, she starts to realize just how unique she truly is…and just how magical her life might actually be.

An exhilarating and heartfelt story of adventure and intrigue, The Adventures of Lola proves you don’t have to stick to the status quo to save the day. Written with wit and gripping insight into what it takes for young individuals to stand up for what is right, The Adventures of Lola is dazzling in its magic and excitement.

I received a copy of The Adventures of Lola for review consideration. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

Lola is a fairy, thirteen years old. She frequently gets herself in trouble, loves to vary the colour of her hair, wants to be an adventuress and resides in the Blue Mountains of Australia. Written in the first person, this girl has an attitude! She does not like school or the teachers. Whilst outside the headmaster’s office one day Lola overhears a partial conversation. Is there the smell of adventure in the air? Can she convince her best friends Jet and Allie?

We had one piece of the puzzle – the Past. What we needed now was the next piece of the puzzle – the Future.

After doing some research, she finds that no records can be found for 1985. The entire history of 1985 has been wiped from all record. why can she find no information on events that happened in 1985? Throughout Lola’s journey she learns about Mindreading, Protective shields, Manipulating time, Affecting the weather, Glimmering, Affecting electronic currents and energy fields.

Although, there were missing speech marks and poor grammar in some places, I did enjoy reading about Lola’s adventures toward protecting her home, but I was a little unimpressed. Lola was a bit one-dimensional for me. I did like how she was smart and brave though.

Overall, The story was imaginative, fun, and magical all rolled up in one book. The illustrations are fantastic. However, I feel that I would have enjoyed it much more when I was younger.
